Mineralogy Museum

Located within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (Via Ferrata, 1), it traces its origins to the section dedicated to the mineral kingdom of the Natural History Museum founded by Lazzaro Spallanzani in the eighteenth century.

Description

The current organization of the mineralogical collections is divided into two parts: the first focuses on mineralogical systematics, and the second includes both mineral samples of greater regional interest and larger specimens. There are also smaller mineralogical collections, such as those from Val Devero (Ossola), polished jaspers mostly from Eastern Europe, and meteorites, including two historically significant pieces that fell near Siena towards the end of the 18th century and were collected by Lazzaro Spallanzani. Additionally, there is a teaching collection available for students, which gathers essential minerals.
