Description

Museum of Archaeology

The museum showcases various classes of materials from the major civilizations of the Mediterranean basin, ranging from prehistory to late antiquity. Among the highlights is a Roman copy from the 2nd century CE of the head of Aphrodite Sosandra. The museum is located in the heart of the 15th-century San Matteo Hospital, preserving part of the original wooden ceiling decorated with tempera-painted angel busts. It also features a Renaissance section set up in the Loggetta Sforzesca.
